Die OLUZAYO-Klubnacht, mit-gehostet von Kölns gerade entstehendem internationalen Dope Gal Soundsystem, featuret Künstler*innen, MCs und Tänzer*innen aus Afrika und der afrikanischen Diaspora.

Hibotep und die in Köln lebende Dope Gal Soundsystem-Initiatorin Catu Diosis kommen aus dem Underground von Kampala mit der hochvirulente Festival- und Produktions-Plattform Nyege-Nyege. Ihre DJ-Sets sind manchmal rau, immer aufregend und voller positiver explorativer Energie und Neugier.

Zwei herausragende Live-Acts verleihen dem Programm zusätzliche Würze: Jay Mitta, einer der spannendsten Produzenten von Tansanias hyperschneller explosiver Singeli-Trance-Musik, wird mit der kraftvollen MC Kadilida auftreten. Der Sound der Sängerin und Musikerin Nonku Phiri besticht durch einen sonambulen und geschmeidigen Flow, der Einflüsse aus Afropop-Stilen wie Kwaito und Folktraditionen mit aktuellen elektronischen Stile verschmilzt. U.a. durch Kollaborationen mit Musiker*innen wie der südafrikanischen Supergroup Mahotella Queens und dem portugiesischen Produzenten Branko hat sich Nonku Phiri als eine der interessantesten Stimmen aktueller elektronischer Musik in Südafrika etabliert. Ihr Debütalbum wird im Laufe dieses Jahres erscheinen.

Dope Gal Soundsystem

Das Dope Gal Soundsystem ist ein weibliches Kollektiv und eine Plattform, die die Zusammenarbeit zwischen DJs, Produzentinnen, Mcees, Tänzerinnen und anderen in der Branche tätigen Sisters fördert. Mit Catu Diosis (Uganda) als Gründerin und Oh Lorena (Deutschland, Kap Verde) als eine der ersten Kollaborateurinnen, zielt das Dope Gal Soundsystem darauf ab, die Freisetzung des weiblichen göttlichen Ausdrucks auf und abseits der Bühne zu fördern – und das als eine vereinte Kraft, denn unsere Philosophie ist: always have each other’s back!
Deshalb konzipieren wir eine Show, indem wir speziell afrikanische und afrodiasporische Femcees, Deejays und Tänzerinnen einladen, an den Shows mitzuwirken.

Catu Diosis

Catu Diosis ist eine freigeistige, energiegeladene und zukunftsorientierte ugandische Produzentin und DJane. Ihre Musik ist geschmackvoll und hochgradig tanzbar, die dich in einer Sekunde von Luanda nach Sao Paulo, von Kampala nach Bamako bringt. Catu hat auf unzähligen Festivals und Bühnen gespielt, darunter das CTM Festival Berlin, das Fusion Festival, Kaleidoscope in Kenia, Nyege Nyege und im August 2023 dann auf dem Locus Festival in Italien.
Während ihres Aufenthalts in Köln hat sich Catu mit der kapverdischen, deutschen Femcee Oh Lorena unter dem Projekt Dope Gal Magic zusammengetan. “Es gibt zu viele großartige Künstlerinnen auf dem Kontinent und nicht genug bekommen die Gelegenheit, zu glänzen”, so begann Dope Gal und Catu nutzt ihre internationale Karriere als Plattform, um sich für andere einzusetzen.

Jay Mitta

Jay Mitta ist einer der Hauptproduzenten der Sisso-Studios und hat eine einzigartige Sichtweise auf Singeli: Er kombiniert es mit Hip-Hop-Einflüssen. In Dar-Es-Salaam gilt er als eine der Hauptfiguren der Singeli-Produktionen und -Szene. Seine Debüt-LP, Tatizo Pesa, wurde 2019 von Nyege Nyege Tapes veröffentlicht.
Gemeinsam mit MC Kadilida tritt er mit Musik- und DJ-Sets auf, was seine frenetische Musik noch weiter intensiviert.

Kadilida is an up and coming Tanzanian Singeli MC hailing from Dar es Salaam – one of the fastest growing cities in the world, blasting her way through male-dominated structure of authority, giving voice to “the children who carry fire”.

Hibotep

Somali DJ, producer, Nyege OG and Femme Extraordinaire Hibotep comes packed with hard blows to weave energies into sonic narratives that are both haunting and liberating.
A walking, breathing example of the diversity of Kampala’s arts and culture scene, Hibo Elmi is, amongst other things, a filmmaker, fashion designer and installation-artist. A self-described cultural nomad, her one rule is that rules are there for breaking. A philosophy that extends to her DJ sets where trap, hip-hop, house are combined with taraab, gnawaa and other more Arabic influences to collide into a vibrant contemporary sonic collage.
In 2019 she joined the We Are Europe roster and became the face of Native Instruments traktor. She has since played at various international festivals like Sónar, CTM, Monheim, Roskilde, and Today’s Art.

Nonku Phiri

Following the release of her debut solo single, the internationally acclaimed ‘Things We Do On The Weekend’, Nonku Phiri has established herself as on one of the most distinctive and influential voices in South Africa’s music landscape. Effortlessly moving between disciplines, she has proceeded to become a sought after collaborator, working with multiple artists, spanning continents and genres.
In 2015, the undeniable trajectory of her burgeoning success led to Nonku embarking on her solo career journey. After years of travelling, performing and writing, 2023 will bear witness to the release of her highly anticipated debut album. Nonku has reached a juncture in her career where her creative voice and perspective are both clearly defined, congruently carving a path for her most impactful artistic journey to date.
